Our 5 Favourite Prints To Warm Your Soul This Winter

16 November 2015

Winter is officially here - the clocks have changed, the John Lewis and Sainsbury’s adverts are doing their best to tug at our hearts strings whilst opening our wallets and sunshine is becoming scarcer by the day. It’s not all doom and gloom though, as our rare prints retrospective makes way for our forthcoming Xmas group show, we thought we’d showcase five of our favourite prints to raise the spirits and warm the soul.

Mangrove Echo by Rob Wass – When it comes to pen and ink draughtsmanship there are few better in the game than Rob Wass. Describing his style as “Organised Chaos”, Rob’s tree illustrations are the perfect autumnal antidote to bleak, dreary weather. The graphic black structure of the flowing tree is juxtaposed against the vivid, bursts of orange, red and yellow inks. The print has been hand finished by Rob so despite being from an edition of 150, each one is uniquely different. The perfect print to bring the colours of autumn into the home.

Chris Stein’s Nightmare by Pure EvilThere is definitely a bit of a festive feeling in this stunning canvas, depicting the queen of Punk Debbie Harry. Spray-painted with stencils by street art supremo Pure Evil, the piece has been had finished with silver foil leaf, giving the effect of Harry being caught in the midst of a snow flurry. Pure Evil is one of the biggest names in the urban art scene with his Nightmare series of celebs being constantly sought after; this piece is a must for any massive Blondie fans out there. Rock On!

Recreation by Bonnie & Clyde
– Bonnie & Clyde’s work always evokes summery feelings with her collaged images of American beaches, palm trees and sunshine. ‘Recreation’ shows all the fun things one can do on Venice Beach and features some beautiful subtle pastel greens and blues. We adore Bonnie & Clyde’s work and think it’s just the thing to get you through those winter dark days.

Arctic Fox by Graham Carter – Graham Carter had a fantastic interactive exhibition with us earlier this year, where he first presented his brilliant A-Z Alphabet series of animals. A huge hit with kids and adults alike, we thought this elegant and stylised arctic fox was an absolute cracker. Although this fox’s natural habitat is the freezing tundra we can’t help but feel our hearts warm at this beautiful little print!

RD2D Binary by Ryan Callanan – When the winter nights draw in it seems like a great excuse to watch a good film. We know for a fact that the cinematic highlight of this winter, for many of you will be the triumphant return of Star Wars. So what better piece to get you in the mood for the latest instalment in the franchise than this witty little number from Ryan Callanan. Depicting the lovable droid R2D2 engaging in a little binary code vandalism, this silkscreen print with spray paint is a signed one off and would also make a fab Xmas gift for any die hard Star Wars fans.
