Our Top 5 Summery Works Of Art

31 July 2015

As we are now in the midst of a typically unpredictable British Summer, we thought it would be fun to select a couple of our more summery, uplifting works to raise the spirits. So even if the weather is grey and disappointing you can inject a bit of sunshine into your life with these fabulous pieces of art.

Spring Has Come- Carne Griffiths

Although it is technically summer and not spring, this beautiful, inspiring Giclee print from Carne Griffiths feels very appropriate at this time of year. Carne is well known for experimenting with unusual materials in his work, often utilising whatever he has to hand at the time, be it wine, whiskey, coffee or tea. This piece is full of life, vigour, energy and optimism.

Cocktail Hour- Grande Dame

You might need to don a pair of sunglasses to view this colourful offering from the Queen of Neon. Grand Dame’s psychedelic artwork has the ability to brighten even the most grey of days and ‘Cocktail Hour’ is one of her eye-popping classics. We can definitely relate to this print, after a few summery cocktails or glasses of Pimms who doesn’t feel like dancing around sexily wearing a lampshade…?

Recreation – Bonnie and Clyde

Summer is all about alfresco recreation and Bonnie and Clyde has paid homage to fun in the sun in this picturesque print depicting California’s Venice Beach. With its sand, basketball courts, palm trees and muscle clad chap posing in his speedo, this giclee and silkscreen print is quite a contract to the pebbles of Brighton beach but equally appealing.

Natural Highs II- Maria Rivans

We just love this surreal and mystic depiction of a summery family outing by local collage supremo Maria Rivans. Wandering through a forest of overgrown mushrooms seems like a fine way to while away a warm summers day. In her artwork Maria creates seductive and subtly coloured environments that you just want to climb into and explore. A veritable feast for the imagination.

Forecast- Ryan Callanan (aka RYCA)

This final ‘Poptorian’ 3D piece by Ryan Callanan reflects the typical British summer time but with a funky acid house twist. Ryan’s highly anticipated show ‘Life’s a Gamble’ opens on 8th August, and will see the gallery transformed with his new lyrical works as well as the debut of his latest Biggie Small sculpture. Regardless of the weather, this is going to be the hottest event this summer and is not to be missed…
